When I first visited Laos in early '97, it was a magical time. Hardly any people went there then. It was a case of spot the westerner. Every place you went to was a delight. It was like being the first person to go there. I was up for real adventure then. I wanted to  goto Luang Phabang, so instead of taking the bus, I headed North on a cargo boat. This took 5 long days, especially after we ran out of ciggies after day 4. I was with a couple of Israeli's, one of them I still very good friends with.... We hung out in Luang Phabang, before I headed North to Muang Sing. Laos is one of those countries where you have to go through 2 or 3 nothing towns to get tooo where you want to. I have no idea what they were called, some I had fun in, some not......

My 2nd visit to Laos was in early '99. It was the exact opposite of my first trip. This time I was in the m,ood to try and find work in Laos, so I visited every business and school in Vientiane, but after nearly 4 weeks in one of the most boring capitals in the world. I left. I headed South to Savan. I was in no real mood to enjoy Laos now after having my spirit crushed in Vientiane. Hopefully in the not to distant future I will return to Laos. Laos these days is on the circuit of Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I much prefered it how it was a few years ago. But we can not have everything in life, but I have great memories of Laos.

This is how bored I got in Vientiane last time. I met this English guy who had just returned from The Plain of Jars. He came back with the back end of a claymore mine Me, being shit bored, started to burn the plastic explosives off of it with a lighter, so he could take it into Britain. It cleared the hotel very quickly!!!!!!
