"Pride" The Panda. Sponsored by a cigarette firm
I'd always wanted to goto China, but somehow never really managed it. Which is strange since I had always been really intrested in Ancient Chinese History. The 1st Emperor to the Mongols to the Manchu's.
A local
We went there on a bit of a whim. Once I realised just how ill my dad was, we cancelled our trip to South America and after he died I needed to get out of this country. I needed space. I needed to escape. My dad had served for the British Army in the 50's in Hong Kong. We found this flight to fly into Beijing and fly out of Hong Kong. It was perfect. We took it.
I wish I would have checked the weather reports of Northern China at the time, as when we landed it was -6 degrees. Cold.
We were amazed just how nice Beijing is. It was modern but still somehow very Chinese. It is very grand and perfect in everyway. Well it is the countries show place.
The underground is a perfect way to get around as Beijing is very spaced out. The Forbidden City was excellent, except after awhile, it got a bit boring, as all the building were the same.
Other wise known as the Falun Gong
Badaling is the most touristy of all the Great Wall sites, but it is still very impressive. It's an easy bus journey from Beijing. As it is the most touristy spot, the sellers can get on your nerves a bit. They also have a cable car for the more lazy of us all.
We did not go up that way.
If you do goto Badaling, get there before the coach parties. It will be very cold though...
Xi'An was a polluted city. If the Terracota Warriors were not there then we would not have gone there.
The Terracotta Warriors were very impressive, except the lighting in the halls was very weak, and it was difficult to get a proper look at them.

Tea House in Chengdu
Chengdu, was the one of the highlites of our trip to China. I could of easliy have spent months there. The city has a very relaxing feel about it. The food can be very hot and spicy, but delicious.
There are many Open Air Tea Houses. The best being in one of the Temples.
An Alley in Lijiang
Lijiang is beautiful. It's very small and it's great to walk around. Most of the buildings are done in Naxi style.
There is a music recital at nite. It's OK, except the M.C. thinks he's a real comedian and is always laughing at his own jokes which are in Chinese...

"To understand others is to be knowledgeable;
To understand yourself is to be wise.
To conquer others is to have strength;
To conquer yourself is to be strong.
To know when you have enough is to be rich.
To go forward with strength is to have ambition.
To not lose your place is to last long.
To die but not be forgotten - that's true long life."
