Epilogue
Lex and Zandra
were married two days later, not the next day as Zandra had wanted. Though
Tai-San had originally been asked to marry the happy couple she refused, saying
that was a job for their tribe leader. The duties fell to Amber who, with a
heavy heart, agreed and married them, though she did not once meet Lex’s gaze throughout the entire ceremony.
Ebony’s reign as Empress of the Locos was
short lived. Though the majority of the Locos had believed her story of Zoot’s mysterious disappearance, Jaffa was
unconvinced. He blamed the Mall Rats, saying that they had murdered Zoot. He
managed to convince a large number of Locos and a few weeks after Christmas led
a rebellion against Ebony.
Ebony and her
few remaining loyal Locos scattered, each going to different parts of the city.
Ebony, herself, chose to finally accept Amber’s invitation and live at the mall as one of the Mall Rats while
Jaffa and his small rebellion whom he called The Chosen left the city in search
of their great leader.
A few days
later Tai-San began to have haunting dreams of a strange bird, perhaps an eagle
she had said, flying about a misty mountaintop. She felt for certain that her
dreams had a connection to the virus and the antidote they were so desperately
seeking.
At about the
same time Jack and Dal finally managed to crack the secret code that was
embedded in the documents they had brought back from Hope Island and the
government buildings they had searched for clues in. Not surprisingly, the code
was coordinates to Eagle Mountain.
The Tribe
unanimously agreed that they should go to Eagle Mountain. After the attack of
Tribe Circus not much was left at the mall for them. The planned to embark on
their journey exactly one month after Christmas.
The day before
the Mall Rats abandoned the mall Zandra and Lex announced that they were
expecting a child. A small celebration was held for the soon-to-be parents, and
though not many had expected Amber to make an appearance, she came and wished
the happy couple only the best. She and Bray then left the party together and
to all eyes there seemed to be very much in love or at least doing a very good
of pretending to be so.
The
tribe left for Eagle Mountain the next day, none of them realizing that when
they would come back to the mall they would be coming back with two less
friends.
