Boy Scout Troop 55
Committee Meeting
October 12, 2004 - 7:00 p.m.
Attendance: Melissa Balog, Tim Balog, Annette Arjani, Tom Amato, Jamie Sanguinetti, Pepper Reese, Cindy Geers, Brad Burns, Gary Stricker, Bob Turner, Paul Klausner, Diane Poarch, Louis Arias, Jane Mannion
Minutes read, approved and filed.
Committee Chairman Report:
Equipment trailer - Tim Balog reported the cost of a new trailer is approximately $1,800 - 2,000 if new. A new trailer would have fewer problems than a used.
Suggested fundraising projects:
Christmas Tree Sales;
Spaghetti Dinner and Auction of goods - auction goods and services during dinner;
Flag posting - purchase flags, procure donations of say $25 per household, boys post flags in yards of patrons on designated days;
Mistletoe Sales;
Rummage Sale.
Suggested rewards: 50/50 matching for funds raised, reward top three sellers or award gift certificates by patrol.
Troop Tents - We have purchased enough troop tents at this time.
Meeting nights - Tim feels it may be difficult to have so many scheduled scout meetings if the troop goes to three Tuesday meeting nights plus Tuesday Committee meetings. Perhaps it would be better to let the merit badge counselor or patrol leader set the day and time for the additional meeting according to what is being done that month. As it stands, keep the first and third Tuesdays as Scout meeting nights, second Tuesday as Committee meeting.
Other suggestions:
Keep boy-run program, provide the opportunity for the boys to achieve rank, and don’t push them through. Have the boys use planning time for future meetings, effectively.
Per Pepper Reese - Appropriate scout uniform should be worn at all appropriate scouting events - needs parameters set so boys know what uniform is appropriate at what event.
Troop T-shirts - Tim has a reference from someone who is willing to donate troop T-shirts. He also has the artwork ready and will follow up. It was suggested by Paul Klausner that the scouts perform a service project in exchange for the shirts.
Treasurer’s Report:
Balance $3,259.80
Liabilities 188.74
Net worth $3,071.06
Scoutmaster’s Report:
Ethan Camenson is the Assistant Patrol Leader who will now attend the Committee Meetings. The Senior Patrol Leader directs the boys’ patrol leader planning meeting.
Planned activity - the boy in charge is to call each person who signed up to be sure he is committed to attending the activity to be sure of adequate number of participants.
Other discussion:
Paintball Family Event is scheduled for October 24, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sign up sheet for boys and family members plus release forms will be at the Boys’ Meeting - October, 19th, $15 per person.
Skills Camp planned for November 5-7 - Pepper Reese has requested help from adults and senior scouts for this activity. He will follow up on securing campsite.
San Clemente Beach Camp - Dec. 10-12 is reserved. Cathy Burns will bring sign up sheet. Cost may have to be divided among families.
Miramar Naval Air Base activity - Gary Stricker reported that the event cannot be scheduled until at least January due to various conflicts
Citizenship in the Nation merit badge class - Marv Shaw will be asked to arrange time and place with the scouts at the Oct. 19 meeting.
Purpose for Board of Review: For boys to answer questions correctly, condition for Eagle Board of Review, good practice for employment interviews. It is advisable for parents to participate in order to keep in touch with what the boys are working on and their achievements.
New Committee Assignments: Tim Balog has resigned as Committee Chairman and is being replaced by Cindy Geers. Tim will assume the position of Chartered Organization Representative.
Next Committee meeting is Nov. 9.
Meeting adjourned 8:16 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Mannion. |
