Boy Scout Troop 55 Committee Meeting February 10, 2004
Meeting called to order at 7:02 p.m.
Parents in attendance - Tim Balog, Melissa Balog, Cindy Geers, Jane Mannion, Paul Klausner, Brad Burns, Annette Arjani, Shelley DePry, Tom Amato, Louis Arias, Mike Trenholm, Diane Poarch. Minutes - The minutes from the January 13, 2004 meeting were read, approved, and will be filed.
Committee Chairman Report – Tim welcomed the new parents to Troop 55. The Spaghetti Dinner tickets will be passed out to the boys at the next meeting, February 17th. Ticket sales will begin right away. To sell in front of Stater Bros., a Scout must sign up ahead of time. The chart will be available at the meeting. (Stater Bros. is very picky about sales) A Scout can sell in front of Jensen’s or Rite Aid at any time, he just has to check with the manager to make sure it is ok. 100% of each Scout’s ticket sales go into their personal camp fund. The monies may be used for summer camp or any Scout activity. Next Tuesday, there will be a “mini” Court of Honor, so that boys who are ready to advance, may advance. The Troop’s new website is www.thetroop55.com. Please visit and see Kyle Geer’s progress. Tim will try and post the minutes on the website. At the next meeting, we will discuss whether or not to post the roster on the website. The calendar will be posted, as well as pictures. Treasurer’s Report – Balance forward - $2,621.11 Total Deposits - 2,808.11 Total Disbursements - 3,209.83 Balance on hand - $2,219.89
Scoutmasters Report – Paul’s goal is to have the Troop be “boy led”. The adults will be there to advise and guide, but hopefully, the boys will be doing most of the organizing and planning. The SPL (Senior Patrol Leader) will be leader for a period of 1 year. The Junior leaders will serve for a period of 6 months. Paul is looking for an old PC so the boys can keep attendance and other record keeping by computer. Brad Burns has an old laptop he is willing to donate. Paul is looking for an adult leader from the new Patrol to help guide the new boys. The goal is to have the adult take a “backseat” to allow the boys to lead- but step in when necessary. Outdoor Activities – The hike down the hill will be rescheduled due to a conflict with Bob Turner’s schedule. Paintball (3/7/04) is a family activity. Parents are encouraged to attend or have their Scout buddy up with another parent who is going. Mitchell Caverns (3/26-3/28) is not a family camp. This trip is for Scouts and leaders. We are planning on taking bikes this time. Joshua Tree campout (4/16-4/18) is also not a family camp.
Other Activities – We need another coordinator for 2005-2006 summer camp. Paul volunteered Vivian Klausner. She is looking at Whitesell (sp?) Camp in the Sequoia’s outside of Fresno. They offer a high adventure camp as well as a merit badge camp. Note to new parents: A Scout must be 14 years old to attend any high adventure activities. Upcoming calendar: Feb. 17th – Mini Court of Honor Spaghetti tickets passed out Feb. 27th – Ticket sales start Mar. 7th – Paintball ($15.00 per person) 1:00 p.m. Mar. 26-28 Mitchell Caverns campout Apr. 16-18 Joshua Tree
The next Troop Committee Meeting will be Mar.9th, at 7:00 P.M. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted,
