Discussions
Uniforms: There was a lengthy discussion regarding the appropriate scout uniforms for various occasions. The BSA Shop was consulted as to appropriate attire, the reply . . . the individual troop decides what is appropriate. After much parental discussion, it appears attire is as follows:
Class A: Scout shirt, neckerchief, slide, scout hat, scout belt, sash and whatever the boys decide for pants. (This would be the uniform for formal occasions such as the Court of Honor.)
Class B: Scout shirt, neckerchief and slide w/ boy’s choice of pants or shorts (regular meeting attire).
Class C: Troop t-shirt or hat or some identifying article of scout clothing for casual occasions such as camping etc.
Nick Klausner will take a poll regarding preference for uniform pants for formal occasions at the next troop meeting and e-mail Cindy Geers with results.
Scoutmaster Position: The troop is in desperate need of a new scoutmaster since Mr. Klausner is to be out of the country for 18 months. After incredible pressure, Dave Dahler stepped forward to accept the challenge. Until Dave’s training is completed, Tim Balog and Bob Turner are able to sign blue cards, rank advancements, etc.
Annual Dues: $45 is due and payable at the February 15 or March 1st meeting or an installment at each. Turn in checks or cash to Pam Maynard or Jane Mannion.
Ten-mile Hike / Lake Arrowhead was successful. Boys need to remember to document the hike in a journal with date, leaders in charge and a bit of a narrative if this activity counts towards your Hiking Merit Badge.
Commitment: Cindy Geers asked that scouts and families please try hard to stick to plans for troop and family trips. A lot of work goes into planning these activities and it is disappointing to have to cancel plans at the last minute due to last minute cancellations.
Activities
Paul Klausner Care Packages: The Committee decided to have the patrols take turns, beginning with the oldest patrol, to make up a care package monthly for Paul Klausner while he is serving his current tour of duty with the Army. The members of each patrol will be assigned a month to gather needful items such as Chapstick, baby wipes, deodorant, possibly baked goods, photos and write a letter(s) to be mailed to Paul for encouragement.
Snow Valley, Winter Sports Merit Badge: Meet Feb. 11, 6:15 am at the Baptist Church. Jamie and Greg Sanguinetti in charge.
Game Night: Tentatively rescheduled for Friday, March 4, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. if the church gym is available. Tim Balog will check.
Miramar Naval Air Base Tour - March 12: Gary Stricker in charge. The boys will tour the air base and be able to use a flight simulator. The first 25 are allowed to go.
Joshua Tree Campout: Dates are not confirmed yet. Brad Burns is trying to arrange for March 18-20.
Summer Camp: Camp Whitsett, June 26-July 2, 2005. The troop needs a headcount for summer camp asap plus we are collecting deposits. First installment due Feb. 15 = $75, second installment due March 15 = $120, final installment due April 19 = $120; $315 total. Please pay Pam Maynard or Jane Mannion.
San Clemente Family Campout: Dates are not secured as yet.
Summer Camp 2007: Camp Cherry Valley is reserved for July 1-6, 2007. Need suggestions to plan for summer camp for 2006.
Fundraisers
Spaghetti Dinner: Tentatively scheduled for March 13, backup date April 10. Tim Balog will clear date with the church and print up tickets to sell in advance. Jensens and Rite Aid are great places to sell tickets and hopefully, Stater Bros. will authorize the troop to sell at their doors as well. Great opportunity for the scouts to raise their own money for camp or dues. 100% of the ticket money goes directly into each boy’s fund for camp or dues.
Rummage Sale: Memorial Weekend - Sat., May 28 at the gym - tentative. Tim Balog again will attempt to secure the gym.
Treasurer’s Report
Pam Maynard is not present this evening.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Mannion
UPDATE: FEB. 16, 2005
Hello Scouts and Parents of Scouts:
We have had several change of dates for scout activities that I would like you to update your calendars for:
The Snow Valley Snow Sport Merit Badge Day will be Saturday, March 5. Please see/talk to Jamie Sanguinetti at 336-1165 for more info. This is a Saturday so cost is $55 per scout.
The Miramar Flight School Trip is available for Saturday, March 5 or Sunday, March 6. I assume Sunday, March 6 would be best. Please call Gary Stricker ASAP to sign up and get more info. at 336-1096.
The Spaghetti Dinner will be on May 1 so put that on your calendar. Tickets were given out at Tues. night's meeting. You can get more at the Tues. night meetings coming up.
Boy Scout Camp at Camp Whitsett has been changed to July 2 - July 8 because of concern the boys may have an additional week of school to make up for bad weather days taken over the allowed number this year. So mark your calendars. We must have $75 before month's end to secure a spot and give the camp a final count so please send or give your check to Pam Maynard. |
