Boy Scout Troop 55 Committee Meeting June 8, 2004 Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.

Minutes - The minutes from May 11 meeting were read and approved and will be filed.
Committee Chairman Report - Tim reported that he is researching the purchase of an eight to 10' trailer. Possible places to store trailer are Dahlers and Klausners. The troop is still in need of additional tents, preferably Coleman Sundomes, 7' x 7' x 3'. Cost is $30-50. Please advise Tim if anyone finds them on sale. We do not need tents for summer camp this year, they are furnished by Cherry Valley.
Treasurer's Report Balance forward 2,144.82 Total Inflows 3,867.52 Total Outflows -6,241.89 Net Total -2,374.37 Tim reported that the negative outflow is due to a large camp payment and net totals will become more balanced since all camp fees are paid. Scout Chad Smith ( Dawanda) paid camp deposit and decided to drop out. His camp reservation was filled by another scout and fees have been returned to Mrs. Smith.
Scoutmaster's Report - Paul is absent.
Have boys thinking about activities they would like to participate in for next year. Planning meeting is at the end of summer.
Outdoor Activities - Bob Turner is absent. Vivian Creek Hike is tentatively slated for June 20, Father's Day. This is a 16-mile hike, rated difficult in the San Gorgonio area. More discussion at the June 15th troop meeting.
Fishing Day - Saturday, June 12, 9 am. This is considered a family activity but would be good if scouts come in uniform. Meet at Grays' Landing, Hwy. 38 - Fawnskin area on Big Bear Lake. Call Dave Dahler as soon as possible for details. Also bring any fishing gear you may have especially poles and lines and they will try to furnish the rest. Please be prompt, presentation is 9:00 - 9:45 am. This is a " California Free Fishing Day" so no one needs a fishing license. Doreen Trenholm is checking to see if her husband Mike is officially a merit badge coach for fishing. Jeff Turner will call patrol leaders who in turn will call scouts for anticipated attendance and report back to Dave Dahler.
Camp Cherry Valley - Cindy Geers will file a tour permit for summer camp. It is advisable for the boys to pack their gear for summer camp in one duffle bag with no extras tied on the outside marked with name. Plus bring a day pack stuffed in the duffel as well. Marv Shaw suggested purchasing the duffle bag at the Army Surplus store. Check in for camp is July 4, 12:30 pm, San Pedro.
Big Bear Canoe Trip/Family BBQ - Aug. 28, 2004 If the lake is too low, horseback riding is a possibility.
So far there is no availability at San Clemente for the group camp site but Cathy Burns will check beach sites in the Ventura area.
June 12, 9 am - Fishing Trip to Big Bear June 15, 7 pm - Troop meeting June 19, 3 pm - Eagle Court of Honor for Joshua and Jacob Balog June 20 - tentative - Vivian Creek Hike, San Gorgonio July 4-11, 2004 - Camp Cherry Valley, Catalina July 20, 7 pm - Troop meeting (only one this month) Aug. 3, 7 pm - Troop meeting Aug. 10, 7 pm - Committee meeting Aug. 17, 7 pm - Troop meeting Aug. 28 - Canoe Trip - Big Bear
Advancement - The question was raised if the younger scouts need to attend programs at camp to help the boys advance through the ranks. Tim advised that if the scouts attend troop activities and meetings, Jacob Balog can help them advance. Pepper Reese suggested dedicating one meeting per month to merit badge work. It was decided to add one meeting per month for that purpose on the new calendar. Vivian thought the scouts should make that plan for September or sooner. Cindy Geers suggested that if a parent from each family could be a merit badge counselor in current standing, it would make it easier and more accessible for the boys. Contact Cindy for merit badge counselor forms.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Mannion |
