Brian's Travels - Indonesia

Trip Summary

Gail and I left Calgary on May 23,1994 and flew to Jakarta, Indonesia via Kuala Lumpur. We spent five weeks there backpacking our way around Java, Sulawesi, and Bali. While there we . . .

played lifestyles of the rich and famous in Jakarta, watched puppet plays in the Sultan's palace in Yogyakarta, climbed thousand year old Buddhist and Hindu temples and monuments, bicycle toured the primitive factories in Solo, hung on for our lives on public buses, world class diving in Manado, collected great seashells on a Sulawesi beach, observed pagan funeral rituals and animal sacrifices in Tanatoraja, trekked around and through rice paddies and primitive mountain villages, fought off becak drivers in Ujung Pandang, gawked at exotic architecture on Bali, avoided tourists in Kuta, chummed with the monkeys in the forest at Ubud, missed the dolphins in Lovina, and traversed the slopes to the top of an active volcano for a spectacular sunrise.

On June 29, 1994 it was back on the plane and we were off to Australia via Kuala Lumpur.
