.................................................................................................................. .....

Now that you are in my house let me tell you what it is like being a Bostonian. Just relax and sit still while I talk..... I love to talk!

"BEING A BOSTONIAN AS A CHILD"

Every life is a story. Here is The Beginning of my story:

I grew up in the Back Bay section. This was MY HOUSE where I did a lot of thinking about life. While growing up, none of us were ever bored living in a city such as Boston, because.... there were always things to do. On rainy days or very cold days we would ride the subway. As long as you stayed in the tunnels you could spend the whole day underground for one fare while staying warm and dry!! On other days, when it rained, we would play catch insideThe Boston Public Library. In the summer we would go to the Boston Pops concerts on the Esplanade. Also in the summer we went swimming at Revere Beach which now belongs to the rich.

As a child, everything in Boston became a toy and an adventure. There was no historical landmark we left untouched. At Bunker Hill we climbed the 294 steps up the spiral staircase inside the monument. We played on the escalators at Filenes and squirt perfume at unwilling customers in Jordan Marsh. There were always new places to go and new things to do. At theMuseum of Fine Arts it was a challenge to not get kicked out by one of the guards....while playing tag. At the Museum of Science we played hide-and-seek. When we got hungry, we begged strangers for money.

The most important place in Boston was OUR CORNER. It was "home". The years of our youth slipped by on this corner.

"BEING A BOSTONIAN AS AN ADULT"

A Bostonian as an adult becomes aware that "Boston" is paradise" and very little exists beyond it. There is Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Somewhere out there exists Chicago , the Rocky Mountains , and California. How many times have you heard others say, "If you dig a hole in the center of the earth China will be found.

One must find employment as an adult. Are you out of work? Check to see if there is a job for you in Boston. Are you jobless and cannot afford to buy a newspaper? Do not fret, read The Boston Globe on the internet. In Boston, as in every other city, one will hear the statement, "If you do not like the weather wait a minute and it will change". If you cannot find employment, do a scientific study and repeatedly check the weather forecast to determine how many times the weather actually changes within a given hour. If that does not perk you up, imagine yourself living in Boston and
shoveling this !!!!

Most of all as an adult, no matter what city we live in, we wonder what our purpose is. On our journey through life we struggle with:

GOD
LOVE
OLD AGE
WHY?
DEATH

In our quest to be kinder human beings, while we are on this journey together, we sometimes need:

INSPIRATION

But....this is a story about Boston so let us not concern ourselves with the meaning of life and instead focus on my hometown! I am proud to say:

I AM A BOSTONIAN

"EATING IN BOSTON"

This is a picture of me cruising the harbor on the "Spirit of Boston" while eating my favorite meal: Lobster, corn on the cob, new potatoes, steamed clams and blueberry muffins. (Some people think the bigger the lobster the better. I think the best tasting lobsters weigh approximately 1 1/2 pounds.) If you do not know the correct way to eat a lobster, the directions can be found here . Legal Seafood, Jimmy's Harborside, and Anthony's Pier 4 have the best baked scrod. Boston has numerous restaurants serving delicious food. Although not gourmet, the only place I can get a cream cheese with grape jelly on white, is in Boston.

If you eat in one of the LOCAL places remember when you ask for a cup of coffee you request that it be "black", "regular", "dark", "light",or "half". Then state how much sugar you want.. When you want a soft drink you ask what kind of "tonic"is available, not soda. A soda requires a flavor of ice cream. You ask for "dropped" eggs on toast not poached. You ask for a "frappe" not a milk shake. The proper way to make a chocolate frappe in Boston is to use chocolate ice cream and vanilla syrup not the other way as is done in the midwest. We do have milk shakes but it is only flavored shaken milk. Traditional meals are most important. On Saturday night a real Bostonian eats Boston baked beans, frankfurters, and canned brown bread which has been heated in boiling water.

If you are thirsty, you might want to go to the Bullfinch Pub otherwise known as:

CHEERS

where everyone knows your name....

"COMMUNICATING IN BOSTON"

Would you like to learn how to communicate with a Bostonian? Would you like to learn the King's English? Here are the instructions on how to

"TALK THE TALK".

Being a Bostonian means being close to the ocean. One of the most exciting things to do is to go whale watching. I adopted a whale named "STUB". A part of his dorsal fin had been bitten off by a killer whale. Stub and I have a lot in common!!

THE BEST IN SPORTS

(do not laugh)

Red Sox fans LOVE their team and are forever loyal. We are destined to be "losers" but our hearts are big and that is what really counts. Every Bostonian knows that the reason why a world series has not been won in over 80 years is due to the CURSE!! Ahhhhhhh it took 86 years for sweetness to arrive. In 2004, we went from "CURSED TO FIRST"! We won the World Series with a bunch of self-proclaimed "idiots".

We will reign again. In the future we will see another "Bill", "Bob", "John", and "Larry"--just to name a few of the greats.

This is not a game for the faint of heart. There will be another Stanley Cup in a decade or two, if we remain patient.

You will always be "The Boston Patriots" to me. Please move back to the city where you belong. YEA NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS 2002!!!! Can you believe it? A repeat performance in 2004!!!! Be still my heart.... WOW!

WHAT NOW?

What brought this Bostonian to the midwest? It was this man. It is his fault. He is a "child of the corn fields".

What does a homesick Bostonian....who now resides in a small ultra conservative midwestern town....do? I found something here that I could never have found in Boston. No one I ever knew before did this. This has become MY PASSION.

Don't forget that before you come to visit Boston you will not be allowed to enter into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts unless you learn the official song of this Commonwealth.
