Bornholm without doubt seems made for bikers. An over-two-hundred-kilometre long network of biking routes, leading through beautiful, varied landscapes of fields, woods, plantations, rock formations, villages and towns, makes you think that there is no other place like this in the world. But it is not only the nature that is generous for cyclists, the authorities of the island as well. Great importance is attached to safety on the road and especially to safety of people on bikes. They have separate lanes on the municipal roads and highways and have right of way over other users of the road. Riding a bike on Bornholm is really comfortable.

The network of bicycle routes still develops as well as the biking industry. The number of small bicycle manufacturers service places, repair-works, rentals and shops increases every year. The development of the biking network and biking industry, together with very professional promotion and advertising, increases the number of tourists visiting the island.

As the statistics show, in the period between 1994 and 1996 the number of tourists was decreasing. But in the last year you can observe an intense abundance of people spending their holidays on Bornholm. Till the end of September 1997 the island was visited by more people than in the whole 1996. Supposedly tourists get bored lying on the crowded beaches of the south and try some other ideas - active holidays in the peaceful north, for example.
