CHATS.........

My thoughts on chats have changed alot throughout the years. When I first began chatting I just did a random search for chats. As you know how searches go, a list of millions popped up and somewhere near the top of the list was Alamak Internet Chat. I stopped in that Saturday afternoon and got hooked immediately. As far a text chats on the web go, I still like Alamak though I like to think I've grown up a little and have moved away from the "pickup" chats and on to the "friendship" chats where I use the same software that my pals do and we hook up together.

PowWow is my all time favorite. It rules as far as I am concerned. On the chat scene for 'close personal friends' who like to get together and torment each other in small groups it is majorly perfect.

With POW WOW a group of up to seven people can get together on your screen and play wavs (sound clips), transfer files, chat voice, chat in text, cruise the web together (this comes in handy for when you just found a new favorite place and you want to show it off to everybody!), and just generally have a blast. Click right here and cruise on over to the powwow download page.

For an excellent and free voice chat...download Microsoft Net Meeting. It has a number of awesome features but the voice part is really great. It also allows you to see video if the person you are talking to has a cam even if you yourself do not have a cam. You can also text chat if you are shy or have no mic although people often won't accept your call if they know you don't have audio or video. It has a shared whiteboard and also file transfer abilities so it is a very user friendly program and thanks to Microsoft it is FREE.

Another good voice chat is Freetel. It is one on one only until you register it (you don't have to tho!!) and it has quite a volume of folks from all over the world to talk to in either text or voice. File transfers are yet another perk with this program and it is well worth the download time to pick it up. I personally don't use it anymore but I have friends who do and they still enjoy it.

Another must is the personal communicator program called ICQ (I Seek You). It is a must have for anyone who has friends and loved ones on the net. Not only does it allow you to see instantly when friends are online but you can send instant messages, chat with several at once, and do file transfers. It has a very easy user interface and it is highly customizable. Get it at the ICQ Homepage.
