On the (date here) Chandrika Bandaranayaka Kumaratunga announced her resignation as President of Sri Lanka. She was elected into office on (date) with a (number) majority. On (date) the Elections Commissioner called all those wishing to run for the office of President to hand in their nominations on the 15th of November 1999 and set the elections date for the 21st of December 1999. On the 15th 13 candidates handed in their nominations at the office of the Elections Commissioner.
