Backstage Pass

Backstage Pass is a 25-minute behind-the-scenes tour that mainly gives guests a look at the making of the popular 1996 live-action film, 101 Dalmatians. After viewing a short film about the dog actors, guests are led into the Special Effects Creature Shop. Inside this huge room, you will see many of the robotic animals used in the movie, such as puppies, skunks, and a horse. Next on the tour, is a special effects stage where guests learn about blue screen technology. A guest is chosen from the crowd to demonstrate this commonly-used movie-making technique. The guest is costumed and put on a bike from the movie in front of the blue screen. Then, using computers, the blue screen is replaced by moving scenes from central London to create the desired image without closing any streets. The next part of the tour breaks away from the 101 Dalmatians theme, and gives guests a look at real soundstages. From soundproof catwalks behind the stages you get a peek at three soundstages, where filming for television or a movie may be taking place. Don't be surprised if you see someone famous. If there is nothing happening on the soundstages, guests watch a short behind-the-scenes film about the training of hundreds of Dalmatian puppies. Next, guests watch one more film talking about Glenn Close's character, Cruella de Vil. When the film concludes, guests move into another large room full of props and sets from the movie. These include costumes, Cruella de Vil's lovely car, and parts of the set in which the tour guide points out secret compartments where the puppy's trainers sat. So, if you love puppies, especially Dalmatian puppies, you'll love this tour.
