World of Motion

Taking guests on a humorous trip through the history of transportation, World of Motion was a wonderful attraction that debuted on Epcot's opening day, October 1, 1982, and delighted and fascinated guests for over 13 years. It closed on January 2, 1996 to make way for the exciting Test Track. Using numerous Audio-Animatronics (188 in fact) and amazingly-detailed sets, the 15-minute ride gave guests a glimpse of how people got from one point to another throughout time, and all the mishaps that went with it. As the ride began, the caveman's transportation is shown - feet! As the ride progressed, scenes depicted animal transportation, the invention of the wheel, Leonardo da Vinci's attempts in flight, and the introduction of the steam locomotive, although it was being held up by a gang of train robbers. Guests soon spotted the first automobiles and the world's first traffic jam! As the ride neared the end, cars progressed to modern day and even into the future. Guests also saw immersive film of the multitude of transporation options today, ranging from snowmobiles to crop-dusting planes. After the ride, guests entered the Transcenter where the latest General Motors autos and prototypes were on display.

Interesting and little known facts

-the model cars and prototypes in the Transcenter were the most photographed things at Epcot!
