Musica Latina

The Best tropical CDs (in my humble opinion)

Ricky Martin: Livin' la vida loca

Smell crossover anyone? this is it.. started with Gloria Estefan, Selena, and now this man.. this song is already a hottie, and is being played all over... it all started with his megahit "Maria" in Europe and Latin America, then his World Cup Anthem "La Copa de la Vida", and now he's ready for his first english release... if you haven't heard it already, have a listen by pressing here

Carrapicho: Fiesta do boi bumba

Originating from Portugues Brasileiro, this CD's contagious song "Tic Tic Tac" was hugely popular all over Latin America a few years back. I heard it in Costa Rica last summer, while ascending Mt. Congo and trying to listen to the radio transmission of the World Cup France 98. We failed to get a good transmission to listen to the soccer match but instead hit a station playing this song... we didn't miss the game.. hehe :-) have a listen by pressing aqui

other cool songs I heard in Costa Rica are

Moliendo Cafe (Mestizzo)

Dancehall Queen (Beenie man)

El Cepillo (Fulanito)

Various Artists "Bombazo Latino"

The Best Latin Ballads are here!!! go buy this CD now... if you know spanish, you will love it!! a compilation of the best 1998 had to offer to the latin music scene... Alejandro Sanz, Christian, Charlie Zaa, Nek, So Pra Contrariar, Juan Gabriel, RICARDO MONTANER, Eros Ramazzotti, La Ley, Mecano, Mana, and the Ilegales are some of the featured artists? why aren't you at the store already? ok then... at least listen to track#2 Lo mejor de mi (Cristian)

Olga Tanon, "Te Acordaras de Mi"

The Queen of Merengue is back with a powerful Pop/Flamenco-inspired album. though some songs are weak, the strong ones Rock!! "Tu Amor", "Escondidos", "Hielo y Fuego", "El Nino", and "Un Hombre y una Mujer" are well worth the album!

Shakira, "Ou Sont les Voleurs"

Shakira, the latina "Alanis Morrisette" is back with a collection of tunes that are really really cool... her best is of course, "Ciega Sordomuda", where she raps her way through rock music with an almost-unique style... (ok ok, so she sounds just like Alanis, but its in Spanish :-)

Chris Duran

Chris Duran, in his debut album, stole my heart when I heard his song "Te Perdi" (I lost you) while living in Boca Tapada, Costa Rica. his melancholic voice and sappy lyrics just wanted me to hug and confort the guy "pobrecito el mae"... it is an intense song, yes!

Various Artists "DJ Reggae Mix"

DJ Reggae mix is one of the best Reggae compilations I've ever heard... Included are the tracks "Dancehall Queen" by Beenie Man (my personal all-time favorite -- brings back intense memoirs from Costa Rica), "Sweat" (Inner Circle), "BoomBastik" (Shaggy), "I can see Clearly now" (Jimmy Cliff), "Here comes the Hotstepper" (In Kamoze), and "One Love" (Bob Marley)

Music from the Motion Picture

The Soundtrack for the movie "How Stella got her Groove Back" is full of groovey dance/R&B/reggae tunes... the best cuts are Shaggy's "Luv me, Luv me" (Featuring Janet Jackson), and Diana King's "Make my Body Hot"
