The time of God's wrath is referred to in both the old and the new testament. It is a historic event in which God starts to deal directly with the satanic forces and the evil people responsible for the destruction of the earth. This event lasts for a period of time, but is referred to as "the day" of the Lord, or the day of His wrath. We read in the old testament, in the book of Isaiah that it is in order to destroy all the land and to destroy evil men.

Isaiah 13:5-11 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the  weapons of his wrath to destroy all the land. Howl for the day of YHWH is at hand. It shall come as destruction from the almighty...Behold the day of the Lord commeth, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it...And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible

Isaiah 13:12 I will make man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the gold of Ophir.

It is preceded and/or accompanied by signs:

Joel 3:30 I shall give signs in the heavens and in the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and awesome day of YHWH

Isaiah 13:10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine

Isaiah 13:13  Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

In the new testament it is also referred as the wrath or anger of God.

Re 6: 17 the great day of their wrath has come and who is able to stand

Re 5: 7 seven golden bowls that were full of the anger of god

Re 15: 1 go and pour out the seven bowls of the anger of god into the earth

Re 19: 15 he treads too the winepress of the anger of the wrath of god the almighty.

The same signs as stated in the old testament are given in the new testament.

Re 6: 12 when he opened the sixth seal, and a great earthquake occurred, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the entire moon became as blood, and the stars of heaven fell

The signs that occur before the day of God's wrath are the same as the signs for the return of Christ to rapture his people.  God's wrath comes upon those who are left behind on Earth.

Mark 13:24-25 the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling out of heaven and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.

Luke 21:25 there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish of nations….for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Before the Messiah returns and the rapture takes place, these aforementioned signs have to occur. We are looking forward to the fulfillment of these prophesies and the signs of His coming.  If you want to know where we stand in the timeline of these prophesies, read Timeline.
