Hello and welcome !!

My name is Anders Thorsland and I am born in Skien, in the southern part of Norway on the 6.November 1954.

I grew up on the country-side together with my older brother Terje. We had a happy childhood together, and I became an aviation-enthusiast early in my life. It started with building and flying airplane-models to my mother's general frustration - and it did not get very much better when I started parachuting !!

I went to the USA in 1976 to learn the art of flying - to the North American Institute of Aviation - NAIA - in Hammonton, New Jersey. I enrolled in a Professional Pilot Course and completed my training as the proud holder of a Commercial Pilot's License with Instrument and Multi-engine Ratings. No pilot's jobs available for the time beeing; so I went on to Gothenburg in Sweden to study Aeronautical Engineering. Finished with my degree after 2 very hard and intence years. Went back to the USA again to take my Flight Instructor's Rating (CFI-A) and finally got my first paid job as a professional pilot in Cleveland, Texas - flying charters with Pa 31 Navajo Chieftain and doing basic flight-instruction on Cessna Singles. Wonderful, carefree life teaching and being taught ! Went home again to Norway in 1982 and got a job with Norving - a commuter-airline. I was flying as co-pilot on a large domestic network in Norway. Also charters all over Europe. Were flying Cessna 404 Titan, C-441 Conquest, Pa 31 Navajo Chieftain, Dornier 228-101 and -201, and also the Saab 340. I was checked out as Captain and got my four stripes in 1986.

Times was bad for airlines in Norway at the end of the 1980's and unfortunately; my company went out of business. I was lucky enough to find new employment in an EMS-company - Emergency Medical Services - flying Captain on King Air A-100's on 800 meter runways in northern Norway. A very fulfilling and satisfying job. However; this company did not do spectacular either .... unemployed again for a while before I found a few jobs here and there in Sweden. I had a year of flying the Dornier 228 and King Air B-200 before I ended up with Crossair in Switzerland in 1989.

I flew Captain on the Saab 340 for a while. Did conversion-training and was type-rated on the Saab 2000 in August 1995 and flew 3 years as Captain. Type-training again in spring 1998 - and I flew Captain on the fleet of MD-83's up till the end of November 1999.

So I have been in Switzerland for almost 10 years. We flew mostly to the large European Charter-destinations in Greece, North Africa and the Canary Islands. But also to the former Soviet Republics - CIS - around the Caspian Sea.

I am now flying captain on the Lear 31A for FlexJet Europe with homebase in Roskilde, Denmark. We are a fractional-ownership operator flying mostly inside Europe. But also iverseas withe fleet of Lear 60 and Challenger 604.

My family is of large importance for me. My mother died 21.November 1996 - a sad day for friends and all in the family. She was a great mummy and has a central part in my memory.

I am back in Norway again and I still have my father here, and also my brother and his family. My daughter is living with her mother in Haugesund on the west-coast of Norway.Linn Kristin saw light for the first time on the 24.July 1989. Already a big girl and very, VERY dear to all of us. We have a wonderful relationship and I try very hard to be a good father for her even if she is mostly with us me only in her school-holidays.

I have been close to the water my whole life and still have close contact with water. I have no boat on my own right now, but it is coming sooner or later - one way or another !! I have been sailing quite a bit in the Caribbean - mostly in the area around St.Maartin, Anguilla and St.Barths. And I have one BIG dream : One day to be riding the winds of the Oceans, full time, maybe around the globe ....

As a man (adult boy ??) do I have a big interest in cars - specially rebuilt, nice old cars. Modernized and reworked with modern equipment and engines. A-model Fords from around 1930-32 is my favorite.

Famous words about friendship. Look at my pictures. Read my C.V.
