Captured Moment of Darkness

O Lord, is nothing enough?
I see crimson clouds in golden sunrises
Drifting into the blue of midday
And yet my eye still turns away
From all your glory, drawn inward
To a captured moment of darkness
For that darkness begat its own beauty
In texture and wild sensation
So that when confronted with majesty
I close my eyes to look upon
A captured moment of darkness
And please, Lord, let this discontent
Be echoed far away, beyond a sunset
Where another eye may gaze out
Feasting not upon the beach or sky
Or balmy summer’s pleasure, but inward upon
A captured moment of darkness.
