This is a very simple, though quite ambiguous definition. Where does one actually draw the line between a normal alloy and one that is "super"? Superalloys are made with a base of either Nickel, Iron or Cobalt. Superalloys are also more complicated in many ways than most alloys, they have many different metals in them in trace amounts. Instead of being a combination of just a few elements, they may have 10 elements in a single alloy, though each of them is necessary in order for the alloy to be strong, heat resistant, and crack resistant in the enviroment it was created for. |
