I was fortunate to have a wonderful family who supported me after surgery, and a wonderful daughter who helped me to learn how to switch a computer on. Even better, and more important (as far as I'm concerned), had endless patience with me afterwards; as during the process of actually learning IT skills to be able to use the thing; I was constantly losing/messing up all her own work, time and time again. Not a good thing as she is studying for a degree at University. She would then have to re-start all her work, and re-programme her computer. This wonderful gift she has enabled me to learn (a bit like driving a car), has enabled me to gain access to information off the internet (thus opening up a whole new world to me), that I otherwise would not have been able to access. The information shared by other ostomates on the internet sites have led to discoveries, these have helped me to gain knowledge, understanding, and confidence in handling my new life with a stoma.
Despite my dyslexic brain; causing me complications with my memory and affecting my rate of learning; I have discovered a joy and enthusiasm for learning that just won't die down, and seems to know no bounds; even to reasonable proportions after a few months. My newly awakened thirst for knowledge is still unquenchable. |
