Hurricane Rita
September 24, 2005
Hurricane Rita, after making landfall near the TX/LA state line, tracked northward toward Shreveport/Bossier City.  The wind started picking up the day before, and by the next morning, things were really picking up.  Shortly before noon on the 24th, a gust of wind measuring nearly 50MPH toppled a large tree into our neighbor's house.  Thankfully, the damage was minor and there were no injuries.  The storm lasted around 24 hours, and the remnants of the eye of Rita (which was at that time a tropical storm) passed over our area at around 6PM on the 24th.  Late that night, the storm was passed, and the next morning was beautiful, if a little humid.  The nice weather made it much easier to clean up the mess left behind!
