                                      VINO'S LIFESTORY:

Alexander Vinokourov was born on 16 September 1973 in Petropavlovsk Kazachstan. After he went to a cycling boarding-school he moved at a very young age to France.
In 1998 he finally started his career there as a professional cycler at the Casino team.        But in 2000,  supporters started to get to know him better when he decided to ride for the German Team Telekom, where he still rides today. Most of the time you can see him pulling the sprints for his team mate Erik Zabel. And now that Jan Ullrich left the team this year, Vino has the opportunity to ride more for himself instead of working for Ullrich in the large mountain stages. Vinokourov is a person who likes to ride mountain stages and large tours.
Now in 2003, you can say that Vino has become a very successful man who already won a couple of tours and stages.
But he is also a very happy man when it comes to his family. Together with his wife Svetlana, they are the proud parents of three beautiful children. The eldest is a little girl called Irina and last year Svetlana gave birth to their twin-sons Nikolas and Kiril.

When it comes to cycling, 2002 was a very remarkeble year but it wasn't Vino's best one;
He fell during the Tour de Suisse and broke his hip while he was close to winning that race.
He couldn't take place in the Tour de France because of that broken hip.
And he got sick during the Vuelta when he was in a good position.
But one of the most tragical things in his life was the lost of Andrei Kivilev, a pro cycler from Cofidis. He was a good friend of Vino's and also from Kazachstan. The accedent that killed him happened in Paris-Nice this year. But luckely Vino was able to win this race and dedicated this victory to his close friend.
But on the other hand, this was also the start of a good season. After Paris-Nice, Vino was the first cycler to cross the finishline in the Amsel Gold Race. And ofcourse we have a lot of expectations for the rest of the season.
We know for sure that his upcomming years as a pro cycler will probably be good ones.
Vino will be in the spotlights a lot of times, and he will show everyone what he's capable of.
We wish him all the luck he needs during his races, and we hope to hear more and more from him every year.

Kind regards,

Madelon van Maastricht
