A brief background...

The History:

Before there was the Spanish, French and German club, there was the elite Latin Club, the biggest and best of them all, self sufficient financially, and officially approved by the Board of Education. Both Latin students as well as non-latin students flocked to experience the ultimate Foreign Language Club experience.

The Present:

Well, following the traditions of history (Burger King copied McDonalds, Microsoft copied MacIntosh, Ragu copied Prego etc.), French Spanish and German students copied the Latin Club model and formed their own foreign language clubs.

There is now a club for every foreign language at Westlake High School. Therefore, it caused a decline in the  member but "not-latin-student" population in  Latin Club.

However, Latin Club is still the biggest, oldest, and most prestigous foreign language club at WHS.  It continues to serve as a model to which the "other clubs" strive to be.

And of course, unlike all those other clubs, the Latin Club does not charge any dues!
