White Horses On white horses let me ride away To a world my heart can understand Where the clouds are made of candyfloss So when I can only see the grey ![]() |
In 1968 a programme for children started on BBC 1 called 'The White Horses'. It was made in Yugoslavia and was dubbed into English. It told the story of Julia (Julka), a girl who went to stay with her uncle Dimitri at his stables where he trains Lipizzaner horses. These are the famous white horses used for dressage. The theme tune has recently been judged the best TV theme tune ever. Now available on a new compilation - Leaders Of The Pack: Very Best Of 60s Girls: 2cd - in top 10 of the compilation album charts. The lyric is to the left of this page. I have more information on the theme tune and an mp3 music file here. I have scanned an article from the Radio Times which introduced the series to viewers. It gives more information. If you have difficulty reading it try this file. There is also an episode guide and a links page. The first time this series was shown was on Mondays at 5.20pm after Blue Peter or Jackanory and before The Magic Roundabout. The series was repeated in 1969 and may have been repeated later. I have been trying to find out if German language videos are available. I have created a blog where you can see episode 13 of the series. There is also something on YouTube. thewhitehorses@yahoo.co.uk
