On the subject of Witches pointed hats people also thought that energy and magick would come from teh witches heads and leave through the point of the hat.

Halloween is one of the traditional Pagan sabbats.

Even though in reality witches are quite beautiful they have had the steriotype repretation of being ugly green faced warty old women. Why? Well during the time of witches persecution it was mainly old hermit women who were accused. While being torchered the bruses on their body turned green and because of the unhygenic environment often caught warts.
