I found a Bartholomew Thatcher in the 1840 census in Clearfield County Pennsylvania, Decatur Township. I don't know if it's my Bart or not. The age is correct.  My Bart would be 35 years old.  This one listed is between 30 and 40.  He's living alone.  I have testimony from the pension file that my ancestor Bartholomew was never married before.
In the pension file, I found a statement from Ellenor that Bart went "home" to enlist.  I found him listed in an
index from Company E which was recruited from Bedford County.   She discovers that nobody in Mifflin County, where they are living after they are married in 1849, served with him in his unit.  Those who give testimony as to his health are from Bedford County--they were in his unit.   I cannot find a Bartholomew Thatcher in Bedford County in 1840.  He must have moved there sometime after this census was taken or was living in another household.  He is the 6th name on the list below.
I could not find my Bart living alone in the 1830 census.  He would be 25 years old.  I found an index of the Pennsylvania Census for 1830 on Ancestry.com and checked every Thatcher in Pennsylvania in 1830 looking for a 20 to 30 year old male listed in the household. The home of Thomas Thatcher in Pennsylvania Northumberland County, Point Township listed a male between 20 and 30 and a male between 40 and 50 among other members.
Then I decided to check New Jersery.
Amos Thatcher listed below in Hunterdon County, Amwell Township New Jersery has a male in his household that is between 20 and 30 years of age in the this 1830 census record.  There is also a male between 50 to 60 years old.
Bartholomew Thatcher from Hunterdon County, Kingwood Township  also has a male in his household who is between 20 to 30 years old and two males between 40 and 50. If anyone knows if my Bartholomew belongs with one of these families or any other, please send me an e-mail.
