Band Biography |
The World Must Know was born during the winter of 2000 when Jon Howell and Derrick Tetlow realized they wanted to start a band. Both were freshman at Allegheny College who had met while working at the same on-campus job. After talking they came to realize that they were both from the same area of Ohio, and they really disliked the others musical tastes. Regardless, one day after work they sat down in Derrick's dorm room and wrote the music for 3 different songs in an hour. Impressed with their first attempts to write original music, they started looking for other musicians who just wanted to write and preform original music. The search didn't turn up anybody but Jon and Derrick weren't dejected. During the summer of 2001, they got together, wrote more music with some vocal parts, and took on Derricks younger brother Ben on vocals. That summer they preformed their first show at a coffee-shop in Ohio to a bunch of friends. Going into their sophmore year at Allegheny, Derrick and Jon were still hopefull of finding people to be in the band and as luck would have it, within the first week of being back Jon's girlfriend introduced him to one of her old friends named Andy Bradford. Andy (a junior) who was from the burbs of Pittsburgh had preformed with a bunch of cover bands during high school and college and was heavily into ska music. The first time the three guys got together to jam the fun atmosphere and good times insured that Andy would be in the band. All that was left was to find drummer. The band put up flyers all over campus advertising for a drummer and a singer. Early on Derrick decided to give Mark Imling (a junior) a try and he was invited over to practice with the band where he totally blew away everyone present. Not much is known about Mark's past (he's the mysterious one), but he's from South Pittsburgh, he's really into metal, math, and fishing. And, unless you have a few hours to spare DO NOT ask him about the oil story. A few people tried out for the singing spot but no one seemed to fit, so the band decided that vocals would be split between Jon and Derrick with Andy on a couple of songs though they are still looking for a singer to handle the majority of the vocals. The band played their first show at the Grounds for Change CoffeeShop at Allegheny College where they continue to play many shows. So thats about it. We've played shows at Allegheny and Buffalo so far but will be playing shows in Cleveland and Pittsburgh over the summer of 2002. The band has no mission. The world must know whatever you have to say, its a principal not a battle cry. All we want to do is to find a way to make music for the rest of our lives cause its what we love to do.. |
