Essence Essence describes the Avatar – the fragment of the Pure Ones that grants a mage the power to warp reality to their will. Avatars act as spiritual advisors, confidants, consciencess and sometimes, adversaries. A mage’s Avatar also determines what form his Ascension will take. Must he strive for greatness, pushing himself and his Art to the extreme? Or will he need to unlock the hidden mysteries of the universe? Dynamic: Driven to eternal change, they flit from one task to another. Dynamic mages see magic as freedom from the constraints of reality, a way to change the world. Most Tradition mages possess a Dynamic Essence. Pattern: The opposite; these architects try to build something lasting from chaos. Pattern mages see magick as a tool to craft reality the way a sculptor uses a chisel to shape stone. Most Technocracy mages have a Pattern Essence. Primordial: Old souls, these Avatars draw their Essence from the beginning – and the end – of the universe. Primordial mages delve into dark magick – their Avatars are deeply rooted in the annals of time. The Nephandi are known to have Primordial Essences. Questing: Eternal Galahads who strive for balance and purpose. They often hold the middle road between the pull of others. Questing mages are rarely satisfied and view magick as a paintbrush of ever-changing hues. The insane Marauder mages most often have Questing Essences. |
