LORES
In order to know something about other supernatural creatures you need to have LORES. Gods forbid I should have to say that more than once. Lores are a necessary evil that I do not relish. To put it simply they are a pain in my ass.  There will be a large folder at every game which will detail MOST of the BASIC lores.

Please NOTE:
You already are ASSUMED* to know almost all of the the basic lore of your general supernatural culture. Changelings don’t need to buy Fairy Lore, Garou and Bete don’t need to buy werewolf lore. You know most of the basics about your culture unless told otherwise!!  (Bete know more about werewolves than some garou and are generally better educated because of strong mentor programs. Of course very young and new Bete know nothing of werewolves until mentored.)

You are ASSUMED* to know the intermediate lores for your supernatural culture equal to your rank, title, generation, ect. (Unless Bete then you know ALL the intermediate lore for Bete, basically you can name all the existing Bete except Naga, and Hengekoi specific kinds.)

So if you are a rank three werewolf you are ASSUMED* to know the first three levels of intermediate lore for Garou.

If you are a Knight you are ASSUMED* to know the first two levels of Intermediate lore for Changelings, a Barrenness would know three, a Countess four and a Duke 5, and so on.

You may buy your own supernatural culture’s lore as if it were basic. You should have ready access to teachers, mentors, and such.

You are ASSUMED* to know the first two advanced lores for your specific group. (Kith, Tribe, ect. )

You may buy your specific group’s lore as if it were basic as long as you have a teacher.

[ *You don’t have to know. If you prefer to learn in character go right ahead. Of course this also assumes you know it out of character, or are going to take the time to learn.]

There will be some basic ground rules for learning lores that are not specific to your character’s culture or subgroup.

Here they are.

Buying other lores.
1.) You need to have at least two bits from every level of the lore you know. Otherwise you have nothing but rumors.
2.) You need to document any lores you learn for your records!! Take notes with the date location and NPC or PC that gave you the info. ALSO PUT THEM ON YOUR BLUE CARDS WHEN YOU LEARN THEM AT A GAME!!  (Exceptions are when you start with lores like garou lore for garou, I do however recommend noting where you learned your lores from in your BACKGROUND. It leaves an opening to learn more, and makes it that much easier to play your character.)
3.) You must request lores in written downtime if you wish to buy them. Don’t walk up to me before a game and say “So and so is teaching me such and such lores.” LORES TAKE TIME TO LEARN!! I need them in writing so I don’t forget, and so you have proof that you spent the experience for them!!
4.) Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Some lores can and will get you killed!! Please don’t look at me all wide eyed and go “Why did the Corax gang up on me like that?” When the murder offs you for knowing where an egg is.  This is how secrets are kept. Dead snoops don’t tell too many tales.

LORE COSTS:

Knowledge is power and power isn’t cheap.

To gain lore you must have a TEACHER, or an explanation of exactly how and when you learned it IN CHARACTER. I more often than not will flat out say NO to learning lores in downtimes. Exceptions are: learning from other PC’s (The other player character must tell me about these lessons in their downtime too or it doesn’t happen!), learning from mentors, learning from totems, and learning from the horse’s mouth. Each of these methods again must be well documented in written downtimes. Also never assume you learn anything (there are things you can assume to know, as stated above), but you may of course always ask. Example: request your mentor teach you about the minions of the wrym. It is possible he just doesn’t know, just doesn’t want you to know, or just plain doesn’t think you are ready yet. Maybe when you are a little older… or maybe, just maybe he will decide you are ready now.. for just a little bit of information.

YOU MUST PAY FOR LORES!!
The cost for lores increases dramatically as the difficulty for finding such lore rises. It is always possible that by some miracle you could learn lore, but the cost of such lore would probably discourage you.

These are the costs for lores if you are NOT a member of the particular supernatural culture/subculture.

The experience cost for BASIC lores such as werewolf, fairy, vampire, witch, ghost, gypsy, church, are as follows:

Levels 1 & 2 = 1 point per level
Levels 3 & 4 = 2 points per level
Level 5 = 3 points per Level
Levels 6 & 7 = 4 points per level  (You are a danger to yourself, this much lore is a death sentence for most.)

Basic lores are very general information about the supernatural culture in question. They are moderately valuable and usually obtained from an observers/outsiders point of view. The lore is not completely accurate and is often muddled or confused, filled with hearsay and superstition. The sources for these type of lores are unreliable and likely not members of the particular culture. This information can often be third or fourth hand. Consider it very general information until you reach levels 5, 6, & 7. At this point the information is far more accurate, and dangerous

The experience cost for INTERMEDIATE lores such as Garou, Bete, Changeling, Seelie, Unseelie, Mage, Wraith, Spirit, Wyrm, Kindred, Camarilla, Sabbat, Anarch, Lilith, Cain, are as follows:

Levels 1 & 2 = 1 point per level
Levels 3 & 4 = 3 points per level
Level 5 = 4 points per level (You are a danger to yourself, this much lore is a death sentence for most.)
Level 6 & 7 = 5 points per level (A danger to others, expect a slow death and take the flaw dark fate with no bonuses.)

This is the more detailed information that members of a culture would have.  It is very accurate, and valuable. You would most likely have to speak to a member of this group to know this information.

The experience cost for ADVANCED lores such as: Bastet, Gural, Ratkin, Corax, Mokole, Black Spiral Dancer, Bane, Pentex, Tecnocracy, Nephandi, the seven mage Traditions,  Blackhand, Bahari, Noddest, Auturuk, Antediluvian, Enochian, Angelic, Demonic, true Infernal, 13 tribes, Kiths, Dauntain, the Shadow court, Clans of the Camarilla (Toreador, Nosferatu, Ventrue, Malkavian, Brujah, Tremer, and Catiff) the Independent Clans (Assamite, Gangrel, Giovoni, Ravnos, Setties)  3 Clans of the Sabbat (Tzimice, Lasombra, Panders) are as follows.

Levels 1 & 2 = 1 point per level
Levels 3 & 4 = 3 points per level (You are a danger to yourself, this much lore is a death sentence for most.)
Level 5 = 5 points per level   (You are a danger to others, expect a slow death and take the flaw dark fate with no bonuses.)
Levels 6 & 7 = 6 points per level (Death is coming for you, your friends, your family and your house pets. Take the negative mental trait paranoia, and the flaw dark fate with no bonuses.)

This is the secret information of secret societies.
You would most likely have to be a member of this subsection to have much of this lore and survive.

The experience cost for MASTER lores such as, Nuwishu, Rokea, Naga, Ananasi, Arcadian, Mummy, Hunter (the Reckoning guys), Hengekoi, Kuejin, The Vampire Bloodlines (Kiasyd, Salubri, Cappadocians/Harbingers of Skulls, Samendi, Gargoyles, Blood Brothers, and so on.)

Levels 1 = 1 point per level
Level 2 = 2 points per level

At this point you hear laughter. No PC should ever have this information.

Level 3 = 3 points per level (You are a danger to yourself, this much lore is a death sentence for most.)
Level 4 = 4 points per level (You are a danger to others, expect a slow death and take the flaw dark fate with no bonuses.)
Level 5 = 5 points per level  (Death is coming for you, your friends, your family and your house pets. Take the negative mental trait paranoia, and the flaw dark fate with no bonuses.)
Level 6 = 6 points per level (Death is coming for you, your friends, your family and your house pets. Take the negative mental trait paranoia, and the flaws dark fate, and hunted with no bonuses.)
Level 7 = 7 points per level (Death is coming for you, your friends, your family and your house pets. Take the negative mental trait paranoia, the derangement paranoia, and the flaws dark fate, 5 point enemy and hunted with no bonuses.) It is time we discussed this NPC idea more thoroughly, and had our heads examined. There is not enough pain for the likes of you.

This represents years of research, by members of these groups, or their founders. This information is considered “lost”. The information at high levels is both priceless and worthless. After all, who would believe you?
