(Technically the book does not seem to want Garou to be able to increase backgrounds. As time goes on you may be able to justify increasing a background either by actions done in character at a game, or with down time. You may NOT purchase Past Life, or Pure Breed.) Rites cost are listed below. The exception to this is renown. Renown can only be gained in character, and costs no xp to increase. If you want to learn a ritual you must spend one week per level studding beneath a tutor. If the tutor is a PC (Player Character), the cost is free (unless of course they charge you) if the tutor is an NPC the cost is 2 xp for Basic, 4 xp for Intermediate, and 6 xp for Advanced. You may make a note of these lessons either on your blue cards, (yes both of you) or on your downtimes. This is an agreement between you two to spend at least 14 hours a week together learning and teaching. Buy off a Negative Trait = 2 xp per trait and it must be role-played out. Buy off Notoriety Trait = 2 xp per trait and it must be role-played out New Merit = Double the cost of Merit with Storyteller approval. Some great role-playing require to explain how you got it.
