People start arriving at the game at about 6p.m. during that time they usually get their characters and ask the Story Teller to run scenes for them of things that happened during downtime. Experience can be spent, with ST permission during this time. This a good time to get caught up with friends and socialize before the game actually starts.
(Bill, player of the Ventrue Primogen
Mr. King, waits for the game to begin.)
At 7p.m. the game starts with the reading of the News. The News is provided by the ST. Usually it reflects a grim World of Darkness view of current events happening in the real world. The news can also reflect the actions of the players at the last game, or during downtime. For instance if someone should crash a plane on Monday night.
(Players listen as the ST reads the news and goes over the rules.)
After which the game will begin. Everyone puts on name tags with their character number and a name if needed.  Then they come back in, “in character”. Live action role play requires you to act as your character for the duration of the game.
(Gregory, the player of Prince Loren Davison, has his nametag clearly displayed.)

Because even prop weapons are forbidden, any weapons needed in this LARP are represented with item cards
(Dan, holding a sawed off pistol grip shotgun, aims it at the character he is shooting, namely Prince Davison)

Notice Dan is acting out the fact that his character, Filip Giovanni has been staked. He waits patently for the others to decide what to do with him while Jessi, playing Mr. Milliner of Giovanni watches over him.
