The Sects

The Vampiric race is made up of 13 clans, families of Vampires with their own personal tweaks, mind sets, goals, and beliefs, and many lesser Bloodlines, groups of vampires different from the “Main 13", but lacking large enough numbers to classify as a Clan. Clans and Bloodlines available for use and how they think, act, etc. will be gone into further detail that can be found in the Clan page. However beyond their blood they also choose to divide themselves along political and social lines called Sects.

The Camarilla

The first Sect is the Camarilla, an organization that has been around since the darkages, the Kindred, having been nearly wiped out during the inquisition. They have decided to hide behind mortal guises, pulling the strings of the mortal world from behind the scenes so as to avoid unwanted and possibly deadly attention.

The Camarilla is isolationist, paranoid, and steeped in complicated etiquette meant to shield its members from espionage. Life in the Camarilla is actually pretty easy for accepted members, provided that you don't challenge those above you too much and you keep to your territory. For ambitious kindred, of course, the Camarilla is both dangerous and exciting.

The Sabbat

Then there are the Sabbat, the mortal enemies of the Camarilla. The Sabbat is composed of the most inhumane, vicious, and violent of the Cainites, they believe that mortals are only food and should be ruled as such, and their purpose for being is to fight off ancient Vampires called Antideluvians who wish to devour all of their Childer in a bloody reign of terror.

Your average Camarilla member has no freakin' idea what goes on in the Sabbat. What little your character does know is nothing more than the assembly of friend-of-a-friend stories. If you want to have any actual Sabbat Lore, you're going to have to earn it in-game, and I'll tell you now: you're going to have a hell of a time going about it. Why? Because both of the sects are isolated bodies-. Misinformation is one of the bywords of the time. Take comfort in this: they know as little about you as you do about them, and they're as afraid of you as you are of them.

This is what every Camarilla vampire does know: The Sabbat is ruled by kindred shape changers and demonic masters of darkness. The names "Tzimisce" and "Lasombra" are known, but rarely spoken. Nobody wants to look like they know too much...

Nosferatu have no contact with Sabbat Nosferatu. To suggest that they do is to accuse them of treason, which is punishable by final death. Keep in mind that their shared deformity engenders a heartfelt kindness to their own - and an inherent suspicion of outsiders. Can you imagine anyone more vicious when they discover that they are being betrayed?

Malkavians have no connection with Sabbat Malkavians.

Toreador have no connection with Sabbat Toreador. They cannot travel safely to Sabbat territories for artistic purposes, nor can they communicate safely with their counterparts. These Kindred are the enemy, and they will either try to convert a Camarilla Toreador or tear them apart.

The same goes for every other clan, I only noted these because some people are under the impression that they are |”special”. No one is special, the Sabbat hates the Camarilla, and the Cam hates the Sabbat. No one is “buddy buddy” with the Anti tribue of their clan. They think you are weak boot licking dogs who need to be put down for the greater good. So don’t give us that “Clan” crap. They are ANTI TRIBUE and that means against the clan!

Independent Clans

The third are the Independents, Kindred who chose not to ally themselves with either sects, instead remaining true to their own desires, beliefs, and agendas.

Independent Clans in this world have a few strongholds (such as the Giovanni in Europe, the Gangrel in Africa, Scotland, and Australia, and the Followers of Set and the Assamites in the Middle East and North Africa). Outside of these territories, their power is extremely diminished. They have little or no recourse when/if mistreated in Camarilla cities, and they rarely survive a visit to Sabbat ones. Essentially, in this continuity (with the exception of the Gangrel), independent clans are rarities who keep to themselves. You, the player cast, will rarely meet a member of one.

The Gangrel are the exception to the rule above. While they have left the Camarilla wholesale, many still enjoy relations with individual Kindred based on long-standing friendships, alliances, etc. Gangrel are often employed as couriers, delivering information between cities that cannot be trusted to electronic media. There are, however, many high-ranking Kindred in the Camarilla who consider them enemies of the sect. Their frequent travel can bring them into proximity to the Sabbat, and anything can happen.

Anarchs

The American Anarch experiment has failed, their self-styled free states crushed by Sabbat invasion and Camarilla annex. San Diego and Los Angeles have been reclaimed by their former Sabbat masters, while San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver have returned to the Princes of the Camarilla.

Self-declared Anarch within the Camarilla are usually tolerated, often looked upon as faddish provocateurs rather than actual revolutionaries. These "Anarchs" are free to proclaim their progressive views, as long as they still hold to the traditions and don't pose any real threat to their Prince - otherwise, they get stepped on. Hard.
