Welcome to my personal info page. A lot of my friends call me Zup. I graduated in May 2000 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
After my graduation, I struggled amidst the economic times to find a job. With the tight economy it has been difficult to locate something with the kind of compensation that I was expecting based upon the things I heard at school. Over time I decided that most of what was important to me in life has little to do with my job. I've established myself in Cleveland a little bit, and hope to remain here. I have been working, but not in a satisfyig job, so I continue to look for a new opportunity to come along.
My interests are pretty diverse, which fits in with my general philosophy that one should try to do and experience a lot of different things in life. My major "structured" activity since high school has been Model United Nations. On campus I was involved in the CWRU Model United Nations Club (I designed the homepage, so please visit it and tell me what you think). We hosted the fourth Cleveland National Model United Nations Conference in November 1999, and it was a huge success. We are already deep into the planning stages for CNMUN V, which will be 12-14 November 2000. Even though I'm done with school, I'm still keeping some involvement with Model UN. One of my next tasks will be to set up a formal CWRUMUN Alumni Association along with some of the other people who've graduated from our club.
As far as leisure activities, I've been into playing RPGs for a number of years. I mostly play GURPS with some of my friends here at school. Before college I played and DMed AD&D with friends from home since 1989.
Other than those, I do a million or two other things. I was involved in Boy Scouts for a number of years, and earned the Eagle Scout rank in 1994. Scouting really fit in with my love of the outdoors. I like going camping, canoeing, and backpacking.
Finally, though I don't have any formal musical training, and can't read music to save my life, I love to sing. I was involved in our concert choir and show choir in high school, and sang with a group for mass at the Newman Catholic Student Center on campus. I'm into all kinds of music, but my favorites are Billy Joel and They Might Be Giants, as well as any 80's music. I'm currently working on a collection of MP3's that will contain the Billboard Top 100 for every year from 1980 to the early 90's. I currently have about 1,000 songs, with maybe 500 more to collect before I'm officially finished.
Here are a few more details on what I'm doing these days (with inspiration from Rob in Monterey):The last movie I saw: | Mission to Mars (don't see it!) |
I'm currently reading: | nothing, too much to do right now |
The last book I read: | Gays, Lesbians, and Family Values by Elizabeth Say and Mark Kowalewski |
I'm currently listening to: | my 80s MP3s |
