COMPUTER ERROR MESSAGE BDL84126.exe

This is a fairly recent computer error message / problem, with the earliest posts I can find on the subject dated APRIL 9, 2004.

Windows Media Player stops working. When you try & launch it, it will attempt to access the internet. You may get a message (NOT an "error message" -- but it should be suspicious to you), something like "BDL84126.EXE is trying to access the internet".

IF POSSIBLE, BLOCK BDL84126.EXE from accessing the internet. (While this is not a COMPUTER ERROR MESSAGE per se, this BDL84126.EXE is up to no good, so try to cancel the process.)

I was able to fix the problem by blocking access via my FIREWALL. (I use NORTON FIREWALL, but whatever you use, it's important that your FIREWALL BE CORRECTLY CONFIGURED to guard against BDL84126.EXE infection in the first place.) I also got another strange, unnerving screen message: "YOU NEED TO REBOOT TO COMPLETE DOWNLOAD." Again, not a COMPUTER ERROR MESSAGE, but pretty scary.

I ran Norton Anti-Virus, which said I didn't have any viruses or trojan horses. OTHER PEOPLE ARE REPORTING INFECTIONS WITH TROJAN HORSES AS A RESULT of BDL84126.EXE.

My Windows Media Player wouldn't work at all until I used SYSTEM RESTORE WIZARD (in XP PRO) and restored to any earlier date.

(My computer & Windows Media Player behaved strangely, but I never received any "ERROR MESSAGES." If possible, try to recognize what's happening with BDL84126.EXE -- it's part of process that will make Win Media Player stop functioning altogether.

As I said, this problem started around APRIL 9 2004, with several posts from people who got hit by BDL84126.EXE on the 10th thru APRIL 12th. I've seen half a dozen posts on it, and everyone who's been hit is in worse shape than me.

I've included some post excerpts to help others with this BDL84126.EXE problem. (Thank you LAVASOFT & COMPUTING.NET -- these two sites had the earliest most accurate notes on the error messages / computer problem.)

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FIREWALL BLOCK ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS (ie, the "BDL84126.EXE IS ATTEMPTING TO ACCESS THE INTERNET").

BDL84126.EXE

Just sharing my experience. I got this problem on the 10th of April as well, but only got around to it now.

I had the same exact problem (excluding the "winpup?" problem) but have no idea how I got it in the first place. I used NAV and went to SARC to get info but nothing on both. I have my virus definitions updated daily as well. Googled and only found 2 links for the .exe file, one of which was in Greek, so I guess this problem isn't as prevalent as I thought.

I followed what was suggested. I had a Hotfix for WMP9, removed that in safe mode, but incidentally Windows gave me a error message about can't finding the Uninstall folder or something. I retried a couple times and it went through. Still in safe mode, I then deleted both instances of BDL84126.EXE bdl84126.exe (I only had 2), one in Windows, and the other in Windows\Prefetch. Rebooted into XP and problem was still there. I went into Add/Remove, and went into "Add/Remove Windows Components" and removed Windows Media Player. Then I went to Win Update and dled the critical update WMP7.x hotfix, then after that was installed, added and installed WMP9. Problem was fixed. In short:

1. Safemode (maybe not necessary)
2. Add/Remove Programs>>WMP related Hotfixes
3. Add/Remove Windows Components >> WMP
4. Delete all instances of BDL84126.EXE (use Search to find them)
5. Go to Windows Update, reinstall the Hotfix for WMP7.x series
6. Again in Win Update, reinstall WMP9
7. Reboot (maybe not necessary)
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

(ME AGAIN -- My only occurance of BDL84126.EXE was in WINDOWS/PREFETCH. By the time I deleted it, I was having no computers problems / computer error messages at all, WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER was working fine after I used SYSTEM RESTORE... SYSTEM RESTORE has saved me from serious computer problems at least twice a month.)

(It was recommended to me to download & use the free Lavasoft app AdAware. AdAware said I had no suspicious problems, despite all that had gone on.)

As of April 15, 2004, posts started appearing saying that LAVASOFT had updated it AdAware software to recognise & fix BDL84126.

"NOTIFICATION Wnd for RNAdmin"

OR:

Notification Wnd for RN Admin

started coming up as an ERROR MESSAGE whenever I tried to turn off my computer. Turns out this is caused by the free version of the ap RealOne Player , which enables you to play REALAUDIO.

YOU CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM / ERROR MESSAGE
by finding a file called "realsched.exe" (mine was in C:\Program Files\Common Files)and changing the name to "PreventExecution- realsched.exe" Nothing else seems to work, including tinkering in the registry. This apparently has been a bug for years, and the company has never bothered to take care of it.(Special thanks to Andy Mason, who figured out the fix. Without him, I'd still be plagued by "NOTIFICATION Wnd for RNAdmin" ERROR MESSAGES forever, since I had no idea they were being triggered by REAL AUDIO.
I hate computer problems, and will post here whenever I have news of any fixes or work-arounds.
