13. The drums on Ride Paranoia are really theatrical, almost Keith Moon or Ian Paice esque, does Kenneth or the rest of the band possess a love for 1970s rock? Erlend: It’s weird you say that, but it’s definitely the case. Some of my favourite bands are Deep Purple, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Iggy Pop, The Stones and tons more. Andreas is a huge Byrds fan, as well as Crosby, Stills and Nash, Love etc. Kenneth loves John Bonham and Keith Moon as well as older jazz-drummes from the 50’s and 60’s, and the other guys also posses a lot of interest in 50-70’s music. May be hard to spot when listening to us, but it’s in there somewhere. 14. Do you think that Ride Paranoia is the best thing you have ever recorded? Where do you see your sound heading in the next album? Erlend: I would absolutely say it’s our best record so far, as it includes a lot of experimentation and new structures and ideas. We were worried people wouldn’t get it, or think we’d changed too much, but when I heard the final product I was very convinced it was a great step further, and an interesting and energy-driven record. The new stuff is even more experimental as far as song-structures and musicianship goes. We’re a lot more confident in ourselves as a band now, with the line-up we have and how we all interact, so prepare for a record that will make you feel freshly fucked and beaten up at the same time. 15. Are you looking forward to coming to England to play with the Mars Volta? Erlend: Since I was slow on doing this interview, we’ve already been down there. We had a great time, The Mars Volta is an amazing band consistent of great people, and we were honoured to come down and play 2 sold-out shows with them. The crowd was reserved but also very appreciative. We’ll be back in September, so get your ass to the nearest club around that time. 16. If you could sum up JR Ewing in one word what would it be?!
