The first amendment
The first amendment is a favourite of mine.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This sentence is a cornerstone of America.  Freedom of speech, press, assembly, and religion.  Things that a lot of other countries do not have.  Currently, many americans are trying to give up these freedoms, ignoring the sacrifices that have been made to preserve them.

I speak, as always, about the Christian right.  They seek to implement Christianity into every aspect of american life.  They want everyone to be like them.  When the media offends them, they seek to have it stopped.  They are trying to move Christianity into the public schools, under the disguise of "intelligent design."  In trying to preserve their rights as fanatical Christians, they are trampling on the rights of everyone else.  I am not a christian, nor do I want to be one.  I do not want my children to learn the fake science of intelligent design in their schools.  I do not want to censor myself so that I do not offend someone whose morals are not only laughable and contradictory, but are completely out of place in today's society.

Accept this:  We are now in the 21st century.  The Age of Aquarius.  Science WILL dominate, it IS dominating elsewhere in the world, and America is falling pathetically behind.  Man does not need God to give him morals.  And man does not need other sanctimonious and hypocritical men to tell him what to do.

I will not listen to them as they tell me that the decline in morality we witness every day is because of a lack of religion.  I will not listen when they tell me that the media is destroying the minds of our children.  And I most certainly will not listen when they try to tell me that God created all life, or guided it in His divine way.

Yes, I am an atheist.  Yes, I am a liberal.  And yes, I am pissed off that a tiny minority is getting to dictate what we learn, what we see on TV, what we read in the papers, and what is and is not acceptable to say.  Frankly and colloquially, lay off.  Accept change, accept what you cannot change because you are making america a laughingstock.
