Side Note:  Anyone can Google and get the entire ‘SAN FRANCISCO OPERA SUPERNUMERARY MANUAL,’

That is why anyone can download the PDF File and read :

‘The Wig and Makeup Department has rather stringent Health & Safety Guidelines. They are instructed to sanitize their hands after working on each client. Also, they are instructed to notify their foreman immediately should any client appear to have health problems. Health problems are defined to include open wounds or sores, conjunctivitis, intoxication, lack of personal hygiene (body odor, dirty hair, head lice, etc.) Please see Carrie Murphy or Gerd Mairandres 415-xxx-xxx (THE NUMBER IS SUPPLIED ONLINE,)  if you have any such problems to discuss how they may be best resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.’ (

At the Meeting
We fundraisers say that people who do not give a donation to the ballet are offering either EXCUSES OR REASONS.

EXCUSE
Definition: excuse-(4). To free, as from an OBLIGATION or duty:
Excuse implies OBLIGATION not being met.
• No money/ temporary=CB (or installments) / Serious = NO
• Not on phone
• Not with credit card

REASON
Definition: To talk or ARGUE LOGICALLY and PERSUASIVELY.
Reason implies something that PERSUADES.
• Not a good time of day/ week/ month/ year= CB or Can’t CB
• Health/ temporary=CB / Serious = NO
• Moving away from area= parting gift or NO

On the Phone
REALITY-CHECK !
We find out fairly quickly that when a patron purchases a ticket, there is NO OBLIGATION to give a donation.
We are asking patrons to do us a FAVOR.
When they say no, they do not really even need an EXCUSE OR REASON.

So, why do people give donations to the ballet?
• COMMUNITY – Education/ Arts Support/ STATUS in Community
• SELF INTEREST – Benefits, Special Drawings/ More INVOLVEMENT in SFB
• EMPOWERMENT – Matching Grant/ Tax Deductible.

It is our job to GIVE THEM A EXCUSE for us calling them up.

It is our job to discover IF and WHY THE PATRON WANTS TO GIVE and then GIVE THEM A REASON (and a way) to go ahead and do it.
Hear With Your Ears
but Listen With Your Heart
The below links, found with Google, indicate that "Official Arts Organizations" can and do make public, information that is sensitive and private - I am THEREFORE outraged that SFO would have anything against the opera part of my website, especially since I have always presented the San Francisco Opera in the most positive light possible -- they have given me much over the years in artistic experience and I was only trying to give something positive back. Sorry.
