AENGUS (Angus Og) Irish. Also known as "Angus the Young". God of beauty, love and youth. Was often shown as a handsome man surrounded by birds. The birds were said to symbolise kisses and inspire love in those who heard them sing. AINE Irish. A corn goddess of love and fertility. Related to the Moon, crops and farms or cattle. Regarded as a fairy queen in County Limerick. AIRMED Healing goddess of the Tuatha de Danann AMAETHON Welsh. Son of Don. God of agriculture, husbandry and luck. ANDRASTE British. A goddess of war in Celtic Britain. Is also associated with the Moon and divination. ANU Irish. Fertility goddess often celebrated as the mother of the Gods. ARAWN Welsh. God of the underworld. ARDUINNA Gaulish. Goddess of the moon, hunting and forests. Equated with Artemis or Diana. ARIANRHOD Welsh. "The Silver Wheel" i.e. the moon. Mother of Dylan and Llew. Associated with a lunar cult. Goddess of stars and reincarnation. BABD Irish. Goddess of war. Often takes the form of a raven or carrion crow, then she is referred to as Babd Catha. Formed part of a triad of war goddesses with Macha and Morrigan. BALOR Irish. God of death and king of the Fomorians (a race of giants). He had only one eye which he kept closed as everything he looked at died instantly. BANBA Irish. A fertility goddess said to represent the spirit of Ireland. BELENUS Gaulish. "The Shining One". God of light and agriculture. Associated with the Irish god Bel (or Bile) and celebrated at Beltane. BEL (Bile) Irish. God of fire, light and healing. Worshipped at Beltane (the festival of Bel) on May 1st. BRAN Welsh. God of health. BRANWEN Welsh. Sister of Bran. Goddess of love and beauty. BRIGID (Brigit, Bridget, Bride) A celtic threefold goddess, her three aspects are: Fire of Inspiration - patroness of poetry. Fire of the hearth - healing and fertility. Fire of the Forge - patroness of craftsmen. She is the goddess of the Sacred Flame of Kildare and was christianised as St Brigit. She is celebrated at Imbolc on or around February 1st. CAILLEACH Scottish. The "Mother of All". Represents the crone aspect of the triple goddess. CAMULUS Gaulish god of war. CERNUNNOS (Herne) "The Horned One". God of fertility, life, animals, wealth and the underworld. Depicted with the antlers of a stag. CERRIDWEN Welsh. Goddess of fertility, the moon and the harvest. |
