THE LAW OF RETURN or THE LAW OF THREE |
- Cause and effect. - What goes around comes around. |
The Law of Return is the concept that whatever we do will come back to us threefold, regardless of whether the action was good or bad. For this reason, the Law of Return can be perceived as both a warning and a blessing. |
A warning that if we seek to harm someone else, through whatever means, it will be returned to us three times. Therefore, we will reap what we sow. However, it is equally true that if our intentions remain good, then we will be rewarded. This is the blessing. |
Sometimes it is difficult to keep our intentions good, especially if those close to us are in trouble. However, we can protect our loved ones through spells and have faith that the Goddess and God will take care of the rest. The Law of Return applies to everyone, so we place our faith in that those who wish to harm us will experience justice. |
Justice as opposed to revenge should be the Witches way. |

THE WITCHES REDE |
There are so many versions of the Witches Rede that it can become quite confusing. However, the basic message remains the same: |
"An it harm none, do as ye will." |
Now, this doesn't mean that because we are witches we can run around doing whatever we want! On the contrary, every version of the Witches Rede I have read emphasises the love and respect that a witch must have for the Goddess and God, the Earth and all those around them. It expresses the desire to work "for the good of all". |
Harm can be defined as "physical, mental or psychic damage" to another. Witches believe that they take responsibility for their own actions and everything that they do affects everything else. |
The Witches Rede can be applied to spell casting. It is impossible to be sure that anything is for the good of all, however, we can ask that the spell follows that guideline. If the spell is successful, we can be sure it was "for the good of all", if not then maybe we need to look at matters a little more carefully. |
A good example of the Witches Rede in practise is the casting of love spells. To manipulate someone into loving another (who they have no interest in) goes against that person's free will and shows no regard for that individual's feelings. However, witches can (and do) cast love spells but these spells aim to remove obstacles (i.e. distance or attract someone who is interested but is too shy etc). |
In spite of this, the Witches Rede does not tell us to accept bad from others. We can respond to negativity in ways that need not harm. We can use protection spells and neutralise harmful energies so that they do no harm at all. While protecting ourselves we can protect others also. |
