Meditation & Visualisation
Meditation can be defined in many ways including focusing the mind on a particular problem or situation.  It can also mean to contemplate something fully so you can understand it better.  Meditation is an important tool of many faiths and philosophies and even the Bible acknowledges it as a useful practise.

Many people think that meditation is something so complex that they dare not even attempt it.  However, most people do it on a daily basis without realising -  day-dreams can be considered uncontrolled meditations.  The key to meditating is to retain control and an awareness of the world around you.

Meditation has many uses.  It is a great tool to relax and research has shown daily meditation significantly reduces stress levels.  In Witchcraft it is used to commune with the Goddess and God and increase our psychic awareness.  It also serves to focus the mind for any ritual or magick working.  Healing and divination also rely heavily on mediatation to be effective.

Meditation can be carried out sitting or lying down.  Don't worry if you fall asleep, it's not a bad thing!  Ideally, choose a quiet place where you won't be disturbed.  The room should be warm but well ventilated and you should be comfortable.

There are many ways to meditate and not all of them will work for everybody.  It is a good idea to attempt different methods until you find one that works well.  Before any meditation it is always a good idea to put up a mental shield.  This can be done by imagining yourself inside a white cocoon or even inside a sort of imaginary body bag which you zip over your head.

Visualisation is another incredibly important skill and one which I find great fun!  It involves using your mind to see what is not physically there.  Many aspects of witchcraft involve visualisation, such as casting a circle, working with energies  and healing.

It can be thought of as "advanced meditation" and once again there are many different techniques.  It's something that requires alot of practise but can be fun and rewarding at the same time.
