The Biographical Cyclopædia of American Women Volume I Daughters of America; or Women of the Century
Hobbs, Mary Everett Marshall Educational Work page 165

HOBBS, MARY EVERETT MARSHALL (Mrs. Perry Lynes Hobbs), descendant of many patriots, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 20, 1863. Her father, Isaac Holmes Marshall, M.D., who was born in Weathersfield, Ohio, September 17, 1821, and died in Cleveland, Ohio, March 30, 1895, served in the Civil War, and his father William Marshall (1774-1859), was a soldier in the War of 1812.
The latter married Rachel McELroy (1780-1871), who planted and tended the crops with the aid of her small children, and rode on horseback all the rough and dangerous way to Pittsburgh, to bring salt to the soldiers of 1812. Both her father, Adam McELroy, and her father-in-law, James Marshall, served in the War of the Revolution. The latter was born in 1745 in County Tyrone, Ireland, where he married Lydia Carson (1754-1830). About 1776 he settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Weathersfield, Ohio, dying there [p.165] February 19, 1829. Doctor Isaac Holmes Marshall married Mary Etta EverettSalem County Records.1 (1825-1875), a pioneer Woman's Christian Temperance UnionWorker and in 1869 First President of the Cleveland Good Samaritan Society. She was the daughter of Major Samuel Everett, an officer in the War of 1812, who was born in Pennsylvania in 1793 and died in Cleveland in 1858. On July 14, 1818, he married, at New Berlin, Union County, Pennsylvania, Sarah Pheil (1802-1890), and brought her, a bride of only sixteen years of age, on horseback, to her new home in Liberty, Trumbull County, Ohio. His father, Captain Samuel Everett, fought in the Revolutionary War. He was born about 1760 in Pennsylvania, and died in 1808, at Liberty, Ohio. His wife, Mary Barbara Mosser (1765-1818), was the daughter of Philip Mosser, a Revolutionary soldier from Pennsylvania, whose wife, Barbara, baked bread in her ovens for the hungry soldiers of two New Jersey companies encamped on her farm, on their return from the Whisky Insurrection of 1794. Captain Samuel Everett's father, Thomas Everett, who also served in the early days of the Revolution, died about 1777 in Lynn Township, Northampton County (now Lehigh County), Pennsylvania. It was here at Lynnport that his father, John Everett, received the original Everett grant in 1735, and it was on his property that Fort Everett was built. John Everett married a Holdren, and died before 1772. He was undoubtedly a descendant of the Richard Everett who came in 1634 from Dedham, England, to Dedham, Massachusetts, although the connection has not been established.
