STORY BEHIND THE BUCK-AN-EAR
For a number of years I was the "pirate" or "bucaneer" because I would "har", (see Kelsey Grammer in the movie "Down Periscope"), rather than "ha"  or (yuk) "he,he,he".  Soon some one would show me something and say "keep this under your bucaneer hat"! which I did.  Some would open a chat with "how's the pie rate? Good or bad?"

Back in October of 2002, I had an operation for a tumor which was behind my right ear and lodged in the skull.  I had the picture to the left taken the day after the surgery.  Naturally a pirate would have a large knife in his mouth, I made due with a table knife!  I now had a picture of me with a patch over my ear, rather than my eye.   Har!!  I made the poster, to the left, and sent it out to a few friends to announce my safe return home.

I guessed that the operation was about $20,000 (boy was I low!!!).  But anyway, I decided to call myself, for the time being, the "20,000 buck an ear", rather than the "Bucaneer".   It was a joke which has stuck ever since.

And as Paul Harvey would say "Now you know... the rest of the story".
