| First off, in order to have a mess hall that is not a mess hall, you have to have food that is not quite food. An example is "C" rations. Here Spec 4 Fahey is contemplating our next weeks gormet meals. These rations happened to be older than I was. They were made in 1945 and I was born in 1947. Har!! | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Who needs a fancy mess hall with tables and chairs, lights, atmospere. Just get off to the side of the road and dig in. Here (left to right) Sgt Williams, Spec4 Zimmer, Spec4 Fahey, Spec 4 Burgett(background). My gear is lying on the ground. I don't know about this particular setting, but we used to tie our c ration cans to the engine manifolds to heat them up. Some times we made night runs and the manifolds would be glowing red hot when we would open up the hoods. | |||||||||||||||||||||
