I Graduated! Here's the Proof! |
The picture may be a little fuzzy but the look on my Dad's face says it all, WE MADE IT! That's right, I know all of you said congratulations and all, but with it taking me 6 and a half years and all I figured I owed you all some living proof that this graduation actually happened, and here it is, pics from the actual event! I would shove my actual diploma through the scanner too, but I am understandably a little over-protective of the thing so this will have to do! |

And here I am with Mom, chilling out before the actual event. Christ, they wouldn't even let us in until the last minute! And then they thought they wouldn't seat all of us at the same table! HA! Thinking they could do that to a Hotelie is like thinking you can beat a casino at black jack. I gave them what for and they relented, setting another place. It was easy, "You see that chair, and that place setting, just move them over here, you know you want to." They couldn't resist a graduate! |
At first I thought this was a picture of Mom and I the morning after, seeing as my eyes are closed and all. Then I looked a little closer. Closed eyes, flushed cheeks, hmmm, I think this is just me taking a break from the celebration to sit on the couch with dear old mum and bask in the brilliance of my success! Not only did I graduate, but now my friends were letting me win at drinking games. Seriously, you all are the greatest! |
The title of this picture? Why, "Thom Wins" of course! Isn't it obvious?! Game, set, match, Mr. Howland. That's right Cornell, take a couple of big ole middle fingers special delivery from me! You tried to beat me down, you tried to kick me out *twice!*, you tried to corrupt me with alcohol and make me feel like an outcast. But in the end I just kept coming back for more. I never could've done it without you Santa. For those of you who don't know, flipping off the camera is a time honored tradition in any Thom and J.D. apartment. Of course, this is me the next morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to take on the SIX exams I had waiting for me over the course of the following two weeks. If ever there was a time to give the camera the double bird, it was now. Do I need to go into how I studied harder than I ever had in my life and still almost failed a class? No way, I've got the freakin diploma, water under the bridge yo. |
And while we're on the topic of graduations, lets go back to the spring of '94 and see what I looked like at my sister Jennie's graduation from Brown. Now you can see why one of my old high school buddies said of my hair: "Let it grow man." Oh I did, that's for sure. That was a great day, I was on my way to Cornell the next fall and my sister was graduating. Did I know it would take me so long to get my own degree or that she would be in med school now? Nope. |
Seriously though, we had good times. We went to the Olive Garden after this and had a fine old meal. In fact, it was so good I think we ended up at an Olive Garden for Ben's graduation too! But that's another story. Here I am pointing out that Jennie has the coolest freakin cap in the whole damn graduation ceremony. And there on the ring finger of my right hand is the ring I loved so dearly and lost, bummer. Anyhow, graduations are cool man, anyone who thinks they're long and boring is right, but missing the point. |
