(...Your Portal for Free PDF Support)

Welcome to the Official Free PDF Support Site. This site was created to be your portal for Free PDF support. I've created installation instructions for each of the major Windows operating systems (9x, 2000, and XP). These instructions will walk you through installing Free PDF on to your Windows PC. This site also provides links to the Free PDF Knowledge Base, where you'll find answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs). I hope you enjoy this site...but, most importantly I hope you enjoy the Free PDF program!

Question: What is Free PDF...you might be asking? Well...

Answer #1:

In my opinion, Free PDF is the only free alternative for creating on-the-fly PDF files. Once installed/configured, creating PDF files is as easy as 1-2-3. First, create a document using a Windows program of your choice. Second, click File/Print and select the Free PDF printer. Third, click the Save_PDF_as button when the Free PDF dialog box appears. It's the only free alternative for the two popular commercial products: Jaws PDF Creator and Adobe PDF Writer.

Answer #2:

According to the ZipGuy, "Free PDF is a freeware utility which allows you to create free PDFs just by printing to a 'Create PDF' printer, from any Windows application.

Free PDF bridges between RedMon (which redirects a special printer port to a program such as Ghostscript, and is owned by Ghostgum Software Pty Ltd) and Ghostscript (which acts as an interpreter for the PostScript language and for PDF, and is owned by Aladdin Enterprises), thus simplifying the PDF creation process, providing useful options and making it easy to use them. Configuration of the programs requires comprehension and some effort on your part.

What Free PDF does, is to behave like a printer to Windows applications. Although, functionally Free PDF behaves like a printer, technically, Free PDF is not a printer driver. You can use any Postscript printer driver you like. So you can print anything (almost) to a PDF limited only by your imagination.

Note that some of the advanced PDF features, including PDF hotlinks and PDF Table of Contents, are not supported" (ZipGuy).
