What  your child should be able to do each Nine Weeks

Before starting First Grade your child should be able to:
* Hold a pencil correctly 
* Form letters correctly
* Write on lined paper
* Count to 50
* Identify upper and lower case letters of the alphabet with 100% accuracy
* Identify letter sounds with  100% accuracy
* Discriminate between a letter, a word, and a sentence
* Recognize  at least  90% the words on the Kindergarten (List 1)  word list
* Use left to right pattern of writing
* Print first and last name
*Follow oral directions

  The First Nine Weeks Your Child Should Be Able To:
* count to 100
* Recognize numbers from 0 to 100
*Count to 100 by  2's, 5's, and 10's with  100 % accuracy
*Recognize  the words on List 1 with 100% accuracy
* Add with sums to 6
* Subtract with differences to 6
* Use the initial letter sound decoding strategy
* Blend sounds orally to make words
* Recognize rhyming words
* Complete a word family
* Identify letter sounds with 100% accuracy
* Write a complete sentence with correct punctuation

* Distinguish between real and fantasy stories
* Correctly space words and sentences

      The Second Nine Weeks Your Child Should Be Able To:
* Mastered all benchmarks for the first nine week
* Identify long vowels sounds
* Identify vowel rules
* Apply long vowel rules
* Decode "r" controlled vowel sounds to read words
* Count to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's with 100 % accuracy
* Count backwards from 20
* Recognize  the words on Llist 1 and List 2 with 100 % accuracy
* Use the initial and ending letter sound decoding strategy
* Recognize word "Chunks" in order to decode words
* Add with sums to 12
* Subtract with differences to 12
* Decode long vowel words
* Write a least 3 sentences about a topic
* Retell a story
* Sequence a story
* Use phonetic strategies to spell correctly
* Alphabetize words to the first letter
* Correctly punctuate a sentence (
.   ?   ! )
* Tell the author and title of a story
* Idenify the main idea of a sentence or story


The Third Nine Weeks Your Child Should Be Able  To:
*Mastered all benchmarks for the second nine weeks
* Recognize the words on the List 1, List 2, and List 3  with 100% accuracy
*Add with sums to 18
* Subtract with differences to 18
* Write a paragraph on a topic
* Identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives
* Identify the subject of a sentence
*Identify the root of a word
The Fourth Nine Weeks Your Child Should be Able To:
*Mastered all benchmarks for the third nine weeks
* Recognize 100% of the words on the List 1, List 2, List 3, and List 4
* Write a coherent story
* Tell time to the hour and half hour
* Identify coins and dollar bill
* Identify the value of coins and a dollar bill
* Count dimes, nickels, , and pennies
* Decode digraphs ( sh, ch, th etc.)
* Decode dithongs
