Although it's difficult to pick a favorite island, St. Lucia has to be one of our 2 or 3 favorites (if not indeed #1). St. Lucia is often called "The Maui of the Caribbean" and for good reason. It is a mountainous and lush (about 75% of the island is rain forrest) island with a semi-active volcano and several waterfalls. Because St. Lucia is not known for its beaches we elected to take a "Jungle Tour" of the island. We rode in an open air 4X4 that took us thru the rain forrest, into the mountains and small villages, and into (yes, INTO) a volcano. Along the way we stopped for fresh, off the tree coconuts, climbed and swam in a waterfall and had lunch at a quaint restaurant overlooking the magnificent Piton Mountains. We simply had the most marvelous day and we highly recommend "Shal" at Jungle Tours for anyone thinking of visiting St. Lucia. |
