The Second Annual Royal - Thomian ended on March 31, 2001 at 00:30 hrs with a grand finale.

The traditions prevailed ! As usual the Thomians dominated in every department and made the Royalists go back to "learn the books".

The 1st XI cricket team was led by
Lashan Egalahewa. Though a low scoring match it was so exciting that it reminded of memories of the world cup semi final in calcutta between India & Sri Lanka ..... the game was won by the better team with a great team effort.

SCORES ...............

OLD THOMIANS - 79 ALL OUT
OLD ROYALISTS - 63 ALL OUT

In my opinion, the highlight of the day was the keenly contested rugby game that was played under flood lights. It was a memorable occasion for all to see some of the stalwarts of the two alma maters donning the college jerseys to serve their schools with the same fighting spirit.

The Thoimans were led by that famous flanker
Ajit Ranasinghe. This was the very first rugby encounter between the two OBA's and the Thomians ran winners with a splendid performance with only a days practice. At the outset the Thomians were served with a rude shock when the Royalists insisted in playing a game of touch rugby rather than the robust game of rugger. However the gritty Thomians were not be fooled. The Royalists opened the scoring mid way into the second half after a scoreless first half. Obviously the Thomians needed sometime to get accustomed to the rules of touch rugby. Once they got their act together the Thomians ran in circles around the hapless Royalists with the first try being scored by the agile Thomian Center Samantha Cooray who should everybody that he has not lost any of his skills. Then the tough and burly Prasad Wimalasekera sealed the game for the Thomians with a fine try in the dying minutes of the game

It was a day of fun for both young and old .......... and like the traditional Royal Thomians it was attended by "Boozing Old Boys", "The sweet and Petite Ladies", and the "noisy little kids" who had a field day watching their dads and uncles battling it out in the playing fields. All who attended had went home after a fun filled day. As the saying goes .....
WIN OR LOOSE WE BOOZE ...... and the old boys ensured to ROLL OUT THE BARREL ......

The Thomians who organized this great day of fun did an excellent job to ensure that all who attended had a fun filled day to remember.

Just a note of thanks to the guys behind the scene who made this day a reality ........
