Time for a little...
ComedySportz was started in 1984 in Milwaukee, WI by Dick Chudnow, who based it on the competitive Theatresports improvisational techniques of Keith Johnstone from Calgary, Alberta. Expansion began with the addition of Madison, WI, in 1985. The first Comedy League of America National Tournament was held in 1988, with 10 teams participating. The CLA now has grown to 25 teams.
Comedy Sportz is competitive improv comedy done in front of a live audience where everything is made up on the spot. Games are played for points and laughs, and the team who entertains the audience the most is the winner. "Matches" are played much like any athletic sport you would normally attend where fouls can be called, for exaple, the "brownbag foul" if you say anything that could be offensive to the audience (think; something you wouldn't want your grandma to hear), and there is also the "groaner foul" if you say something SO pointless, that the audience GROANS becuase of its stupidity. Also, as in a real sports match, an announcer (a.k.a. "Mr. Voice") calls the score, a referee mediates the madness, and at halftime, lots of candy and other goodies are sold.

Comedy Sportz is played professionally by teams in many major cities throughout the U.S. and it is, by many people's account, the funniest gosh darn thing you will ever see. Tesoro High School, along with many other schools in the Southern California area, is proud to be a part of the Comedy Sportz High School league. We're a bunch of newbies to the CSz scene, seeing as Tesoro just opened up this year, but thanks to our "big sister" school,
Capo Valley, we've progressed a whole lotta bunches over this school year. Also, under the instruction of the lovely and talented Ms. Des Palmes (a.k.a. Miss C, as most of us like to refer to her) we've established ourselves on the scene of High School Theatre, and we hope to keep on improving over the years.

So come support us and all things Comedy Sportz, it's good times!
