Dragonball is a Japanese Anime that started out as a Magna series in 1984. The creator, Akira Toriyama, based the magna series off of an old Chinese legend. Later realizing he knew nothing of the legend, he started to make things up. The magna was later to become an Anime series (Japanese cartoons, not to be confused with Magna), and it swept Asia by surprise, Dragonball was a complete success. After he finished Dragonball, he started a sequel series, Dragonball Z. Unlike Dragonball, Dragonball Z was based more on fighting and less on comedy like Dragonball was . Dragonball Z was a new stretch for Akira Toriyama, for he had never made an action based Anime/Magna before. His style of Anime/Magna was more to the comedic side. At the end of Dragonball Z, Akira Toriyama gave up on the Dragonball crave. He was later to produce two other great Anime/Magna hits. At this point, the Dragonball series took a turn for the worse, or so says the fans of the series. Toei Productions decided to continue on with a sequel series despite Akira's absense, and so spawned Dragonball GT. It is said that Dragonball GT is somehow different from the previous series. Well its becuase the drawing were drawn by a whole new set of artist.
